Chelsea Women’s rising star – Jorja Fox – has signed for Charlton Athletic on a six-month loan deal.

The English defender will be moving from the WSL – the top tier of women’s football – to the second division for the rest of the season.

The 18-year-old first joined Chelsea when she was just eight years old and has made her way through the club’s academy.

She was seemingly thrilled with the prospect of a new challenge when she said: “I’ve done all that learning [at Chelsea] but it’s now time to put that into practice. It’s going to be really important for me, especially with going down a league, because it gives me the opportunity to step up and be the top player and drive the standards”

Fox joins an Addicks side who currently find themselves sixth and have taken 17 points out of a possible 33. However, she was keen to show faith in her new side as she said: “We’ve got a really good group of girls and I think sixth in the Championship doesn’t represent the quality we have in the team.”

The full-back signed her first professional contract with The Blues on her birthday in August 2021. Since then, she has made her debut in the Women’s Super League, coming on as a substitute in a 5-0 win against London City Lionesses.

Fox also made her Champions League debut in a 7-0 win against Swiss side Servette; the defender was also an unused substitute in last season’s Champions League final defeat against Barcelona.

The young prodigy has also made seven appearances for England at several different youth levels. Fox’s biggest win in an England shirt came in the UEFA u19 Championship Qualifications where she was part of the team that thumped Northern Ireland 8-1.
