Poole Town vs Hayes & Yeading United Match Report

Ahead of Poole Town's game against Truro City at 19.45 today, here's how The Dolphins performed last Saturday against 2nd place Hayes & Yeading United.

Poole started the game on top with a header at the back post being directed into the side netting, deceiving the home fans who thought their side had gone 1-0 up.

Jack Dickson, Poole’s right-back for the day, started the game very well. He was causing Hayes a lot of problems. His close control on the ball was very impressive and the opposition could not get near him.

Dickson – who was wearing the number 11 despite his position – made a skilful run down the right-hand side and played it to Corby Moore in the middle of the opposition’s half who skied it over the bar.

Poole had a free kick on the halfway line and Declan Rose attempted to catch the keeper out by shooting but his attempt sailed just over the cross bar.

Poole’s physicality in the first half meant they were dominating the game however they were struggling to work the ball into the box. The Dolphins resorted to shooting outside the box. They had a lot of close efforts however nothing was converted.

A very meaty challenge from Josh Carmichael earned him a yellow card. It seemed that the player got the ball however the player went through the back of him to get it.

A big altercation over a fowl conceded by Poole took place in the 35th minute. In the middle of the pushing and shoving Poole’s Tony Lee falls to the floor and appears to have his groin stamped on by Hayes’ #2. The referee did not see but the aftermath of the incident sees both players booked.

Against the run of play, Hayes win a penalty in the 38th minute which is converted by Moses Emanuel with what seemed to be their first shot on target. 1-0

A very high challenge on Poole’s Luke Holmes on the edge of the box sees #5 go into the book. It would not have been surprising if the player was shown a red card. The free kick came to nothing.

Half Time: 1-0

Hayes #2 was replaced at half time. A sensible substitution due to him already booked and looking like he was headed for a second yellow.

Poole Town’s Tony Lee came very close with a header. However, he headed it over the bar despite being put under relatively low pressure.

After only being brought on at half time, Hayes’ Hassan Jalloh heads a cross into the bottom left-hand corner to make it 2-0 in the 48th minute.

With a comfortable 2-0 lead in the 49th minute, Hayes seemed willing to let Poole enjoy most of the possession due to them not doing much with the ball.

In the 56th minute, Poole’s Tony Lee ran down the left-hand side of the pitch and smashed it across goal, beating the keeper but the attempt was off target.

With 59 minutes gone, Hayes had shown impressive game-management; making lots of little fouls whenever Poole got hold of the ball to stop them getting into a rhythm.

Hayes’ #10, Moses Emanuel, ran down the left wing in the 60th minute, after beating Jack Dickson to a header, went one on one with the keeper but smashed it into his chest.

Hayes were once again showcasing their exceptional game management. They were continuously soaking up all the pressure from Poole and hitting them on the break. In the 64th minute, Poole sent a long throw into the Hayes box that was successfully headed out the box, played it to Emanuel - who picked it up inside his own half - ran down the left wing and smashed it through the keeper’s legs to make it 3-0.

Poole’s Sean Wright pokes a cross into the bottom left corner to make it 3-1 in the 73rd minute. There is a small altercation as Wright rugby tackles the keeper to get the ball off him to ensure a quick restart.

In the 77th minute, Hayes and Yeading’s #9 beats the Poole offside trap and played it to #12 who hits it from the edge of the box, forcing a save from the keeper.

In the 87th minute, Poole’s Will Spetch clattered into a Hayes attacker on the edge of the box, conceding a free kick on the edge of the box. He was booked for his reaction for the referee’s decision.

Hayes’ #15 stood over the free kick and fired the ball into the top left corner – making it 4-1 and prompting some Poole fans to leave the ground.

Full Time: 4-1

Poole Town announced their Man of the Match as Declan Rose, who was playing left-back. Someone else who I thought performed well was their #11, Jack Dickson. He was the only Poole player willing to run with the ball and everything dangerous started through him.

I would have awarded the Man of the Match to Hayes and Yeading’s left-winger, Moses Emanuel. He scored twice and was very dominant on the ball.
