The Parisian academy graduate, Kingsley Coman, comes back to haunt them in a cagey yet entertaining Champions League final
Bayern Munich deservedly came out on top against Paris Saint-Germain. The cagey final was dominated by the Bavarians who ended the game with over 60% possession. PSG need not hold their heads in shame as Thiago Silva and Marquinhos had very strong performances however, superstars like Neymar and Mbappe struggled to perform.
“I see him as a top right back, left back, centre back, number 6, number, 8, number 10. He has the qualities to be anything he wants or anything his manager wants" - Jose Mourinho on Joshua Kimmich
Following, Thiago Alacantara's impressive final performance you must think that his price must have inflated by at least £10 million, bad news for Liverpool fans. however, the news is not all doom and gloom due to the added financial bonus of Coutinho winning the competition. With a rumoured £5 million coming into the club (from a reluctant Barcelona) the inflation may not be totally devastating news for Jurgen Klopp's red men.
Overall strong performances from many Bayern players
The obvious performance to highlight is that of Kingsley Coman. The French winger got his head on the end of a Joshua Kimmich cross to send them ahead in the 59th minute. He had also been causing all sorts of trouble for Thilo Kehrer, with him nearly winning a penalty off the defender. Alphonso Davies, the 19 year old Canadian full back, had an interesting performance. For the duration of the first half he was shaky, lacked confidence and his final pass was lacking confidence. Once the second half began his performance only grew in quality with him making lots of quality challenges and getting in front of Choupo-Moting in the last few minutes of the game to stop him tapping the ball in from close distance.
The two most prevalent performances came from Joshua Kimmich and Manuel Neuer. Kimmich put in a sterling performance from right back; he got a wonderful assist for Coman's winning goal and was extremely strong in defence. Kimmich would have got the man of the match award if it was not for Bayern's superhero in goal. He made crucial saves including a double against Neymar just before the half time break. He also made multiple critical saves against Kylian Mbappe. One in the first half where the shot was harder to miss and score, yet Neuer was there. Another spectacular save that won't be added to the statistics is one that was once again to stop Kylian Mbappe from equalising, yet he was offside. The French striker had just Neuer to beat with no one around him, yet Neuer still managed to block the effort. An overall 10/10 performance from the goalkeeper.
